Neurodiversity in Tech Community Code of Conduct
Welcome to our Neurodiversity in Tech Community! This is a safe space for neurodivergent people in tech to connect, share, and support each other. Your community admins are Parul Singh, Callum Fraser and Jonathan Fielding. By being a member of this community, you agree to the following guidelines:
Code of conduct
Trust and Inclusivity:
Your Discord nickname for this server should be your full real name. You can change your nickname for this server only, which won’t affect your nickname for other servers. If you fail to do this, you risk removal from the community.
As much as we love our allies, this is a safe space for neurodivergent people in tech only. We operate on a trust basis, so intentionally misrepresenting yourself will result in permanent removal from the community.
By being part of the community, you agree to support all neurotypes. The term “Neurodivergent” includes anyone whose brain functions differently. As well as covering things like ADHD, Autism and Dyslexia, it also includes things like BPD, Epilepsy, PTSD, OCD, etc.
Respect privacy:
Do not share the invite page or invite link with anyone; as admins, we need to be able to vet who joins the community to keep it a safe space. If you want to invite someone, please send them the invite form to fill out: https://www.parallelminds.io/neurodivergent-techies-discord-community.
Do not share any member’s or admin’s sensitive information outside of this community without explicit permission, including discussions in private channels.
Do not share screenshots of any part of this community, including public channels, outside the community, regardless of its content. This is critical to ensure it remains a safe space.
Do not use individuals’ names maliciously, even if they are not a part of this community.
Be kind and respectful:
We encourage a healthy discussion but ensure you remain respectful and kind.
Discrimination, bullying, harassment, or disrespectful behaviour will NOT be tolerated.
No medical advice, promoting illegal drugs or pseudoscience:
Do not promote any drugs that are illegal in the UK. We understand there is a grey area as some drugs are illegal unless prescribed. If the drug can be found on the British National Formulary website (https://bnf.nice.org.uk/), you may post about it, but you must explicitly state this is illegal unless prescribed by a medical professional.
Do not give medical advice if you are not a qualified medical professional. Additionally, be mindful of asking for medical advice.
When sharing resources or information, please do your due diligence to ensure the source is credible.
Respect Identity and Pronouns:
We encourage everyone to add pronouns; you can do this by going to profile -> edit profile.
Respect everyone’s pronouns. Do not intentionally misgender or deadname any individual.
Respect an individual’s preference for how they view their condition/identity/disability. For example, some people may prefer to say “I am a person with Autism”, and others may prefer to say “I am Autistic”.
No Predatory or Exploitative Promotions
Promoting services, products or events deemed to be predatory or exploitative of neurodivergent people will be removed by the admins. Persistent violations will result in removal from the community.
Do not spam members through unsolicited direct messages promoting products, services or events.
If an event ticket costs more than £10, this will require prior approval from admins before posting.
Handling Violations
Enforcement of this code of conduct:
Violating any part of this Code of Conduct will result in the following:
First Offence: Warning
Second Offence: Final Warning
Third Offence: Immediate permanent ban from the community
More severe first offences may result in an immediate permanent ban without a warning at admin discretion.
Reporting:
If you want to report a breach of this code of conduct, please send a direct message to Parul Singh, ideally with a screenshot of the breach or sufficient context in your message.
Moderation and Appeals:
Admins will enforce this Code of Conduct. If you feel that a decision was unfair, you may appeal to the moderators for review. Our decision is final.
